As I was desperate to progress into management, I was ready to do something I may to increase my chances, and remembering my course, though not too convinced at the time I assumed a some new garments were in order.
Instead of visiting a high avenue swimsuit seller on a budget, I decided to go up market and bought some costly Italian fits, costly designer double cuff shirts, silk ties and cuff links.
The first crew I attended a company meeting carrying my new apparel, I began to get approached by my colleagues asking me if I had “got one of the jobs?”. My interview was scheduled for two weeks time, it should have been the garments!
This was a strong lesson for me and must be for you as properly. The way you seem to others has an enormous bearing on the way in which you're perceived. Costume as you could have up to now, e.g. a pupil with little money, or like anyone who's just been promoted to administration, who shall be perceived higher?
The second example takes me again to a time when I was interviewing for a sales position. During a break between interviewing, I used to be standing outside the hotel entrance waiting for the next candidate once I saw an outdated Ford Granada enter the automobile park. It had been some years since I’d seen one and I marvelled at what a rust bucket this actually was. A younger man in a scruffy suit emerged, prime button undone and a poorly executed tie knot, round 2 inches under the undone high button.
I looked at my watch and realised that he was my subsequent candidate. I had already formed a strong picture and made a full basket of most detrimental assumptions. A couple of minutes into the interview, I had to ask if he had been consuming, he replied with “just a half at lunchtime”. We referred to as it a day right there.
The candidate was a very personable, brilliant younger man with a level, and on paper, the proper background for the role. Apart of the ingesting bit (obviously a no no…1/2 pint smells the identical as 6 pints!) his probabilities of gaining the place were over before he even got in the room.
